Mavro Palama Salento Rosso 2004

Puglia – the heel of the Italian boot – has been growing wine grapes for many years, but it was only in the past couple of decades that quality became a priority. However, now that modern winemaking has shaken things up, some exciting local varietals are beginning to live up to their potential. The Mavro is a blend of Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera; the former gives it power and tannins, while the latter brings out the aromatics. The balance works well, and yields a full-bodied wine with lots of muscle and firm but not overbearing tannins. It fills the glass with fruity aromas of dark raspberry, blackberry, and black cherry, all offset by spicy notes such as licorice, cola, and tobacco.

Fleshy, ripe, black plum fruit awaits in this tasty southern Italian red. Easy, sunny, and generous with a savory note which will make it a good choice for grilled meats, game or pasta!

Many people think that if they' re going to store wine at  home then they need a cellar.  But the word cellar conjures up  images of dark, cavernous chambers cut  out of bedrock, or slick,  temperature and humidity-controlled rooms lined with mahogany  wine racks. All very nice, but  not at all necessary. We recommend  you interpret cellar somewhat loosely.

There are four main things to  consider when storing wine: temperature,  light, vibration and keeping the  cork wet. (more)
