Sep 14, "B.C. Wine Tours"

Hello Folks,
Well fall is about to start and that means wine harvest festival time through out the grape growing areas.
I found this article on British Columbia wines and I felt it was time to acknowledge my former province of residence. They really to have a wonderfully developing grape and wine
industry.
B.C. itself is a spectacular province with simply marvelous people. Here is a lead in from their site.
Set between the Pacific Ocean in the west and the magnificent Rocky Mountains in the east, British Columbia is Canada's westernmost province. Blessed with breathtaking landscapes, BC is home to a geographical diversity that lends itself to a vast array of activities and adventures. There are mountains to climb, rivers to run, beaches to comb, forests to hike, parks to stroll and warm summer lakes to laze about on.

The province generally enjoys a temperate climate but where there are mountains, there is snow. Renowned for the steep and the deep of its world-class ski terrain, BC is bustling with energy and opportunity as it prepares for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Now about their things to do list (including wine tours)they have ...
Things To Do
The challenge in British Columbia is not figuring out what do to, but how to do it all. There are myriads of municipal, provincial and national parks in which to walk, hike and cycle. Thanks to a temperate climate, golf enthusiasts can indulge in their passion nearly year round. Theatre and performing arts, shopping as well as professional and spectator sports all have a large presence in cities and smaller communities. Spectacular viewpoints, bird-watching and wildlife viewing abound no matter where you travel in the province. There are also many sites of historic interest throughout BC.
You will enjoy this site and if you get to B.C. itself. You will fall in love with its geography and people.
Cheers! Murray

Aug 24, 5 Wine Myths Debunked

Hi Folks,
I found a great article for newbees to the wine world. It deals with debunking silly traditions in the wine world. Which of course makes me a big fan. I have included their website, they have some other good artiles included in their site. Enjoy! Murray

5 Wine Myths Debunked

To novices, the culture of wine can seem a rarified, untouchable realm best left to sniffing, postulating experts. But delve a little and youll find that basic wine appreciation is not only fun, but not all that complicated. The first step? Debunking these popular myths:

1. Smelling the cork. The cork is not for smelling, unless youre a whiz oenologist trained in picking up taint. Youre handed the cork to check that its not crumbling or saturated, which can have impacted the integrity of the wine.

2. Reds go with red meat, whites go with fish. They do, but its not that limited. For instance, some reds (Pinot Noir, Beaujolais) are delicious with seafood, while dry rose or dry Riesling pairs well with salami.

3. Hold your wine to the light to check color. Actually, holding your glass of wine against a white tablecloth or mat will give you a much better sense of the color than a blinding light will.

4. Screwcaps are for schlock wine. Not anymore. Screwcaps are the way of the future in the wine industry because they are a much better method for sealing wine than corks are. So be prepared to see coveted vintages sporting caps in the near future.

5. Wines breathe when you open the bottle. While most wines do benefit from decanting, youll achieve very little by simply popping the cork. The advantage of decanting is that in its spacious bowl, youll unfurl tight wines, disperse aromas and in aged or unfiltered reds, sort out the sediment. Just opening the bottle wont help you much.
